Happy stitchy October my friends!

This month we’re stitching an aquarium bonanza.

The video tutorial is in three parts, you can pick and choose what to watch based on what you feel you need help with.

The parts are broken up into the three groups:

Part 1 - stems and leaves
Part 2 - fish
Part 3 - flowers

Then inside each tutorial I’ve time stamped each stitch so you can skip ahead to what is relevant to you.

Stem Stitch Fills

The focus this month is filling shapes using the stem stitch. Filling shapes this way has three benefits:

You get a solid and sturdy fill that’s not prone to snagging like the satin stitch.
It’s easy to fill patterns of all shapes and sizes without much decision making.
If you’re stitching with wool, the finish is almost flawless without additional effort.

I show you lots of helpful tips to make your filled shapes look even such as:

starting behind a stitch to create sharper points.
keeping your stitch direction the same for an even finish. (even though I mess this up a couple of times)
outlining a shape first and then filling into the middle OR filling line by line? We do both.

Latticework Logic

I’ll also demonstrate how to keep the lines on your lattice work more even with my geometry lesson. If you start watching this part (12 minute mark in the overview video) and it’s boring you to tears, skip it and do your lattice work your way! 😂 i promise not to take it personally, haha!

I have a thing about lining things up and about lines being symmetrical that’s why I use this method but it might be a bit much for some. I also like the cutlery all facing the same way in the dishwasher… but that’s another story

I recommend you start by watching the overview below and then looking over your magazine and embroidery instructions and going from there.
