Organise your craft projects like a boss.

I know, I know this is not exactly going to change the world, but it might just change YOUR world! In your craft room, lounge room, storage cupboard etc.

I know it changed my world!

I’m going to keep this brief and just talk about the practicalities. I got the boxes from IKEA in Sydney. The boxes are called Spinnrock and I found them online but only in a US based IKEA here is the link. Not sure if they’re still available but there’s the link nevertheless. (btw I’m not promoting IKEA just sharing my own purchase!)

OK have a look what I created and tell me what you think…

Here are all my current craft project boxes. As you can see some of them have a little card with description and a number. The number is the order in which I’d like to complete these. This is not overly strict but it gives me a bit of direction.

Some boxes don’t yet have anything in them but I’ll be allocating projects there soon.

Here are four examples of what I’ve got going on. I’ve just taken the lids off and there is a tray in the top of the box where I placed the actual project. Underneath are two smaller shallow boxes for the tools and materials.

I really like that there are separate compartments inside because it means my needles, threads, hoops and snips won’t get all tangled and messed up together. Plus it looks nice and neat and that speaks to my inner spreadsheet nerd.

I’ve actually placed snips, needles, a hoop and threads inside every box. So yes this meant I bought 12 snips but now all I have to do is grab the whole box and not have to look for the snips separately or more needles or the hoop etc. For each project that I placed inside the box I allocated the right thread colours and amounts and added any relevant pattern or instructions.

There is one large box with the tag TBA which means “to be allocated”. This is where I throw in either garments or patterns or fabric that I want to work on one day. I will reach for an item from this box when I finish a project from one of the small boxes. Then I will select threads for the project and add in any other relevant items like maybe a fabric pen, special needles or other accompanying fabric.

Will this make me more organised and efficient?

hmmm…. that the plan! haha!

Will it work? I don’t know.

But I do like it and I feel in control of the kerfuffle that was.

I’d love to know your thoughts!
