What is a quilt panel?

I design large panels of fabric measuring
1m wide by 1.35m long.

Each panel has twenty square patterns specially designed for embroidery to be added over the top.

There are no rules!

The twenty square design allows you to leave the quilt panel intact and add a border and backing to finish your quilt.

Or you can cut the squares up, add sashing in between and make your quilt bigger. Some people buy two quilt panels, cut the squares up and mix and match.

The possibilities are endless!

Facebook quilt group

What do you get when you purchase a quilt panel?

Quilt panels measure 130cm x 100cm with twenty square designs each measuring 23cm x 23cm and twelve square ‘cornerstone’ designs measuring 6.5cm x 6.5cm.

The fabric is a blend of 50% linen and 50% cotton and is 190gsm in weight.

Below is an example of the “Madison” quilt design.

What can you do with the quilt panel?

1. You can choose to embroider the whole panel as it is then add a border and binding using your own fabric around the edges and make a small quilt. With the left over ‘cornerstones’ and a little bit of your own fabric you can make a mini cushion.

2. You can also cut up the squares (where applicable), add your own sashing in between and add the ‘cornerstone’ squares at the junctions to make a bigger quilt.

3. If you get two quilt panels you can make a great big quilt by mixing and matching the squares in any combination you like, plus make a cushion with left over squares and cornerstones!

4. Or keep the panel as it is and applique the ‘cornerstones’ over the top on an angle.

How do I place an order?

You will be able to order your quilt panel from the online shop anytime between 9am Thursday 21st May 2026 and 5pm Friday 5th June 2026 (Sydney Australian time)

I’m not a quilter, can I still do this project?

Absolutely! I was not a quilter before I started designing these and in fact i don’t consider myself a quilter now. My “quilting” is super basic, I just join the layers in big squares or add a piece of backing fabric after finishing the embroidery and turn my piece into a simple coverlet.

I’m a beginner with embroidery could I still do a project this big?

Yep! Because you only do one stitch at a time. The size of the project does not add complexity. Each square pattern or each design element is simple and you can add as little or as much embroidery as you like. Plus I give a lot of guidance and the Facebook group gives amazing support.

What does the fabric feel and look like?

I hear ya! The fabric is a blend of 50/50 linen and cotton and is 190gsm. The cotton gives it lightness and softness and the linen adds an organic texture. As you work the fabric, little flecks of linen will drop off and create a textured and organic look. You'll occasionally see darker linen fibres woven through, short threads of 3-5cm, slightly deeper in tone than the surrounding cloth.Below are some close up photos.

Which thread colours should I get?

I use ten colours of DMC stranded cotton thread on all my projects, including the quilts. These ten colours repeat themselves across all my kits and quilts making it easy to mix and match your designs. However many customers who bought the quilts just use the threads they have available at home. The quilts are very colourful and can handle a big mix of colours.

If you have a big collection of your own colours I suggest you go through those and use them up! Using perl thread is also fine. The stitch guide that comes with each quilt design gives you colour numbers to follow.

• I don’t want to make a quilt but I really like the designs, is there anything else I could use the fabric for?

  Oh yeah! Many of the members in the Facebook group have cut up their squares and made small drawstring bags, sewed four squares together to make cushion and one even turned hers into a jacket! You’re only limited by your imagination.

  No, I’m only doing one release per year.
