A short and sweet hello today because I’ve sat in front of this screen for about 45 minutes now and the only words coming out of my brain are: “why are you not writing something clever, funny and of value?”
There i said it. I’ve shared the reality of writing blog posts. Sometimes I can’t string a sentence together. And this after saying last week that I have ten topics already lined up in my head! ha! The irony! Or maybe I jinxed myself by saying that.
Thankfully I managed to put together some interesting material below in the form of:
A close up on a feathery stitch, (I even made a video).
A wonderful maker of the week, ( with a stitched tablecloth!)
An invitation from The Wednesday Tribe (plus the January & February patterns)
But for this part here, where I usually open by bursting in through the doors with a loud “Ta-daaaa!!” today I got nuthin…
However… where words fail me, pictures never do.
So I hope you enjoy what I’ve managed to put together for today.

Close up
If you love solid filled shapes with stitch next to stitch then here’s a technique you will love. The “Rebecca” pattern features a bird with a show stopping tail. Her tail is something that everyone always comments on and it’s achieved in a pretty simple way.
There are three distinct things going on here:
I’m using six strands but blended three of one colour and three of another to give it that feathery effect.
The overlapping scalloped shapes are stitched one at a time (see diagram below).
A French knot is added at the pointy end of each scallop.
If you have a look at the diagram you’ll see that it’s just stitching one of those shapes at a time making sure the closed fly stitch is fairly tight. So no gaps between the stitches.

If this stunning table cloth and matching napkins aren’t a work of love I don’t know what is. Geraldine shared this photo with me a couple of years ago and I’ve never forgotten it. The design is from one of my very early patterns called “Olga’s garden” and Geraldine repeated it all the way around the table cloth. You can see a bit of the edge hanging at the front. That’s a lot of stitching! As if that wasn’t enough, she also embellished the centre and then added six napkins. Amazing work Geraldine!

We are now gearing up to start the October lesson and pattern and I would love you to join us. The intake window is open for one more week so you’ve got time to check out what all the hoo-ha is about and decide if you’d like to join for one month, 3 months or dive in for a full year of embroidery education.
I lead each months lesson via a beautiful design, not samplers. You will learn stitches beyond straight lines and learn to apply them in actual patterns. Each month I also demonstrate how to select and swap colours without stress.
Essentially I teach you to not need instructions and instead rely on your practiced intuition and personal style.

I have a feeling I’m going to be right here at my worktable until the next newsletter rolls along as I try to organise my threads.
I tell you, thread organisation is the bane of my existence. You would think that after all these years I would have been a pro by now, but no. Every so often I reorganise, buy new boxes, storage drawers, labels, you name it. Then after a few months it’s a shambles again. And every time I find a new “system” I always think: “THIS is the best! This is brilliant and this time it’s perfect and I’ll use t for ever!” Until I don’t… sigh.
Maybe the best system is to just accept that there is no perfect system.
But if you have a secret for yours please share, I’m all ears and ready to try everything.
